Gallon, Worthy cleared to practice

According to a report from ESPNBoston's Mike Reiss, rookie wide receiver Jeremy Gallon and newly acquired defensive tackle Jerel Worthy have passed their physicals.

This is a boon for Gallon, the Patriots' 7th round draft pick this past May, as he surely would have been a candidate for the IR, but now has the opportunity to make an impression in a loaded New England receiving corps.  Regardless, the Michigan product will most likely end up on the practice squad if he clears waivers after final cuts.

Worthy, a second round selection of Green Bay two years ago, has been perpetually injured and was never a fit for the Packers' two-gap scheme, but has a chance to fit in New England as a three technique pass rusher in a 4-3 alignment, though his making the team probably hinges on the health of defensive tackle Chris Jones.

There is a slim possibility that he could make the roster regardless of Jones, particularly if he shows the explosion through the gap that he displayed in his three years at Michigan State before declaring for the draft after his junior year - as he could give greybeard Tommy Kelly as run for his roster spot.

Kelly is coming off an ACL tear and subsequent surgery last season, but has not been limited in practice or in games.
